How we work

You give us a conversation and about an hour of access to the farm. We handle everything else.

  1. We talk about what you want to know

This happens before anything flies. Are you pricing a season, planning a cut, deciding where to replant, or trying to work out why one block never does well? Different questions call for different flights at different times of year. If what you really need is a walk through the rows with a notebook, we’ll tell you, and the conversation costs nothing.

  2. We fly your farm

A typical farm takes about an hour in the air on a clear day. The drone flies a set pattern on its own while we watch it. Work on the ground can carry on as normal. You don’t need to be there, but you’re welcome to come and watch.

  3. We process the images around your question

Several hundred overlapping photos are combined into one sharp, accurately positioned picture of your farm. Then each tree is found and measured individually. What we do next depends on what you asked in step one. A count for pricing and a search for a sick block are different jobs.

  4. We go through it together

You get a PDF report, and then we sit down and go through it with you. The first time anyone sees their own farm measured this way, they have questions, and we’d rather answer them in person than leave you with a file.

  5. We decide what to measure next time

What you learned may change what’s worth looking at. That might mean the same flight next winter to see what changed, or a growing-season flight over the block that worried you. Or you may already have what you need.

Questions we get asked

Do I need to be there when you fly?
No. We need access and a clear day. We’ll text you when we arrive and when we leave.
What about my neighbors?
The drone stays over your land, high enough that it’s hard to hear from the next property. If your farm is close to houses or a road, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
What if the weather turns?
We reschedule. Poor light or wind produces images that aren’t good enough to measure, so we’d rather come back another day.
How long until I see something?
The flight takes about an hour, and processing takes a day or so. Expect to go through your report with us within a week of the flight, weather permitting.
Who owns the imagery and the data?
You do. Nothing from your farm appears anywhere public without your permission. Even when a customer lets us show their imagery, we remove the farm’s name and location unless they ask us not to.
When is the best time of year?
It depends on what you want to know. See below.

More on timing

Trees are easiest to pick out individually when there’s snow on the ground and nothing else is green, so a winter flight gives the cleanest count. Measuring how well trees are growing is the opposite: it needs the growing season. Farms that want both get the most from two visits a year. One visit is a fine place to start, and we’ll help you pick the season that fits your question.

Tell us what you’d like to know.

A rough acreage and the name of your town are enough to get started.
